Angie’s appreciation of fine jewelry started at a very early age when she was a girl living in the Dominican Republic. Her grandmother, Bernarda Abud, allowed her to play dress-up with her fine jewelry collection. Soon her love of jewelry turned into creative expression, designing and making jewelry pieces for her dolls and then for her friends.
While visiting Miami, Florida with her grandmother in 1983, Angie decided to make the vibrant city her new home. She started her new career designing earrings and worked as a manager for a local jewelry store. After developing a following as a designer, she opened her first jewelry store, the first Angie’s Jewelry & Gifts, in 1990.
Fifteen years later, in the summer of 2005, Angie opened her second store; in the heart of the Connecticut shoreline, on Main Street in Old Saybrook.
Angie keeps up-to-date with the latest design trends through her travels to Europe, visiting jewelry shows and designers in Spain and Italy. From her personal relationships with innovative designers, she has been able to bring back original, one-of-a-kind pieces from Italian designer Mario Garfarino and Spanish jewelry designer JCG, among others.
Angie has further sharpened her skills by studying with Wendy Black-Nasta,
an internationally known jewelry and metals artist who creates one of a kind jewelry in gold, diamonds and emeralds in Manhattan’s Diamond District.
Once again, Angie has a local following for her customized and original jewelry designs. Her creative artistry has made her the go-to designer for original jewelry that will be treasured by generations to come.
